Leanne from She Can Quilt
|Inspired by Canada by Leanne|
Leanne began sewing when she was five years old and has played with textiles ever since. She started quilting in March of 2010. Leanne is an award winning quilter, winning ribbons in both Canadian and American quilt shows. She likes to design quilts and has published patterns in magazines and a book. Leanne shares her quilting journey, including many free tutorials, on her blog, shecanquilt.ca. Leanne lives in Alberta, splitting her time between Lethbridge and Edmonton, and also heads off to the west coast to spend time on a Gulf Island. When she is not playing with fabric she works as a lawyer and hangs out with her family and two cats.

Inspiration for Inspired by Canada
I named my block, Inspired by Canada. A triangle is the strongest shape, and Canada is very strong. Canada has three mountain ranges, and three coasts and three oceans and triangles have three sides and there are three triangles in the block. And the Canadian flag has three branches on the maple leaf. The block looks modern and minimalist but it is pieced as a traditional log cabin, which is also typically Canadian. And finally this block reminds me of a hockey jersey.
